Most who have been
involved in a large-scale implementation of Enterprise Asset Management
(EAM) and Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP)
Systems will be familiar with the question – ‘How do you eat
an elephant?', and the obvious answer is ‘one bite at a time'.
But what does that have to do with systems implementation? The correlation
is in the enormity of the two tasks.
Nearly
all organizations implementing EAM and ERP Systems begin with a Business
Case in mind. The typical business case involves improvements
in reliability, shortened and reduced numbers of outages, and reduced
inventories and material costs. Despite the best of intentions, the objectives
identified
in the business case are rarely attained during the initial implementation.
As often happens, significant change management issues are encountered
and the focus eventually shifts to resolving the technical challenges
of implementing large, complex suites of EAM and ERP applications.
This is particularly true of products like Indus' PassPort™ and EMPAC™ Products, where the inherent robust functionality in each application
creates a multitude of cross-functional issues, and where an often times
overwhelming number of configuration choices are presented. |
|
Ask most any program manager - as the
project life cycle nears production cutover, the project budget will
be nearly exhausted,
and the time remaining will be exceedingly short. There is also the inevitable
pressure to get the applications into production, transition the production
support needs to the existing support organization, and to closeout the
formal project. Even where the training is ‘spot on’ (i.e.;
fit for purpose), transitioning end users to effectively use the system
is not an overnight occurrence, but rather requires two to three months
to affect. The victim in this evolution is the Return on Investment (ROI)
and Return on Assets (ROA) objectives initially envisioned. Under the
best of circumstances these objectives are short-circuited, while in
the worst
case they are forgotten or ignored. |
| |
Recognizing the realities of ROI and ROA achievement, iStrat
Support has expanded its customer services support offering
to include the following elements:

methods and procedures for
moving their systems back to baseline in a controlled,
business case fashion, protecting or restoring your product warrantees,
and ensuring
that only those customizations required to support the
business

easily, and
ensuring that all deviations from baseline code are captured
in the analysis.
-
Getting Customizations under Control – iStrat’s offering in this area addresses the nuances of Configuration
Control Management,

Improving Interface Performance / Resolving
Reconciliation Issues – timing
issues relative to interfaces, and points
of integration, can wreak havoc on the
capture
of ROI and ROA. iStrat Support can
assist you
in identifying the most appropriate points
of integration, taking into account the
complex,
cross-functional
nature of the software.
We can also assist you in differentiating
batch versus real time needs, optimizing
the use
of valuable
CPU capacity.
-
Streamlining On-Going Production Training – iStrat can add value to your on-going training
needs by streamlining that effort,
and ensuring that training is performed on
a fit for purpose basis.

Durations – the combined
Process and Technology skill set of iStrat’s resources
brings a unique understanding of metrics needed regardless
of your industry.
We have the metrics, and we know where and when to apply
them based on best practice experience in YOUR industry.

in inventory investments, reduce the numbers of warehouses
needed,
and move
more dollars through to your bottom line.
-
Using your EAM / ERP to Reduce Material
Costs – as
in the case of reductions to inventory, iStrat can also show you how to
use your EAM or ERP to reduce cycle times,
capture economies of scale, and enjoy other
benefits through
the optimal deployment
of your inventory
systems.
-
Leveraging the Full Extent of Functionality – few
customers implement the full range of functionality with their initial
implementation.
As a follow on action, iStrat Support’s experienced
analysts can help you identify additional functions that
can be easily
deployed in support of capturing even greater benefits.
-
Business Process Convergence – many
customers implement
incrementally across their organization, and either due to mergers
and acquisitions or site specific requirements,
wind up
with different processes and configuration at
various sites. Based on the
numbers of requests
we have received
from customers
regarding the
optimal methods of
merging these divergent
work flows, iStrat Support is now also offering
this service to our customer base.
